[Lebanon Emergency Relief] Ongoing Middle East Conflict Destroys Countless Homes – Children Trapped in Hunger Crisis, Urgently Need Your Help

The conflict in Iran and across the Middle East continues to escalate, and Lebanon has become one of the most severely affected countries. Intense attacks have already caused more than 2,700 deaths and nearly 8,400 injuries, including over 700 children. Under the threat of conflicts, more than 1.2 million people have been forced to flee their homes, with 400,000 children losing their shelter. Latest data shows that 1.2 million people in Lebanon are suffering from severe food insecurity, with many families trapped in desperate hunger. Innocent children, struggling to survive in an unstable environment, are enduring multiple hardships—lack of food and water, loss of education, and deep psychological trauma—while fighting for life on the brink of death.

Escalating Conflict Deepens Economic Hardship – Food Crisis Looms

With the ceasefire agreement not yet fully implemented, southern Lebanon, Beirut, and the Bekaa Valley have suffered repeated heavy attacks. According to the latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report, between April and August 2026, one-quarter of Lebanon’s population—around 1.2 million people—will face severe food insecurity, with many families struggling to survive under the threat of food shortages.

The conflict has further intensified Lebanon’s already heavy economic and refugee crisis. Lebanon hosts the highest number of refugees per capita in the world, having taken in large numbers fleeing the Syrian crisis. Since the severe economic crisis erupted in 2019, nearly half of Lebanon’s population now lives below the national poverty line, with social and economic pressures already at breaking point.

Now, the conflict has destroyed homes, schools, hospitals, and infrastructure, plunging the fragile nation into a deeper crisis. More than one million people have been displaced. In March alone, 33,000 families crowded into over 650 collective shelters seeking refuge, struggling to survive in overcrowded conditions while facing shortages of water, electricity, and food.

The conflict has destroyed countless homes and schools. More than 470 schools have been forced to serve as temporary shelters, resulting in the disruption of children’s learning.

Children Face the Harshest Struggles Amid Crisis

In this crisis, children are suffering the most. Countless schools have been destroyed or converted into shelters, forcing education to a halt. Ongoing bombings and the loss of stable homes have inflicted severe psychological trauma on children.

Jad, a 5‑year‑old boy with autism, has endured the heavy burden of displacement alongside his mother. Previously, he received care at a specialised service centre and was gradually improving. But when they fled their home, all the familiar routines and stability vanished in an instant. In the shelter, Jad feels especially unsettled in the unfamiliar environment and struggles to adapt; yet his mother’s gentle presence has become his source of safety and comfort.

Jad’s family fled their home after the escalation of violence and now live in a shelter.

Dr. Kanie Siu, Chief Executive Officer of Plan International Hong Kong, expressed deep sorrow over Lebanon’s situation, stating, “Countless children and women in Lebanon are struggling to survive in fear. For girls, the food crisis not only destroys their present lives but also has profound and irreversible impacts on their future. Under food shortages and family pressures, girls are often the first to reduce food intake, the first to drop out of school, and the most vulnerable to exploitation, early marriage, and sexual violence. The situation is gravely concerning. Plan International once again publicly calls for a full and permanent ceasefire, urging all parties to take immediate action so that innocent families and children can have enough to eat, regain hope, and safeguard the future they rightfully deserve.”

Children and Girls Endure Daily Hunger – Your Support Is Urgently Needed to Help Them Survive

Plan International has been working in Lebanon since 2017. Since the escalation of the crisis in March this year, we have continuously provided emergency assistance to affected children and families, reaching more than 117,000 people. Our support has included assistance to 83 shelters, distribution of over 4,900 hygiene kits, provision of more than 14,300 food parcels, delivery of over 2,000 dignity kits (containing personal care and women’s sanitary items), supply of 95 assistive devices for persons with disabilities, and multi‑purpose cash assistance to nearly 2,000 households.

Plan International has been distributing emergency relief supplies to affected families, including food parcels, hygiene kits, menstrual hygiene kits, mattresses, blankets, and baby kits.

In local temporary shelters, Plan International has established Child-Friendly Spaces where children and girls can receive psychosocial support through continued learning, play, and social activities—helping them regain smiles even in the midst of hardship.

As the food crisis worsens, Plan International will continue to expand humanitarian assistance to ensure more children and families have access to food, clean water, and other basic necessities. We urgently need your support to distribute more emergency relief supplies, helping children and families in desperate need and saving more lives. At the same time, we call on the authorities to immediately achieve a permanent ceasefire, so that innocent families are spared from losing their future to conflict and hunger.

In this humanitarian disaster, countless children struggle daily against hunger, their futures hanging by a thread. Your donation can provide food and clean water, and more importantly, give children the hope of survival. Please act now to support our emergency relief work in Lebanon and help save precious lives.
