Plan International Hong Kong Youth Conference 2016

Held With Success

In cooperation with the Department of Asian and International Studies of City University of Hong Kong, Plan International Hong Kong has organized ‘Plan International Hong Kong Youth Conference’ since 2015. Through learning and discussions, the conference is held with the aim of encouraging and inspiring young people to speak out for girls’ rights and nurturing the sense of global citizenship among younger generations. Such initiatives will contribute to the efforts in freeing more girls from violence and helping them get the education, skills and support they need, ultimately creating powerful forces for change in their communities.

Plan International Hong Kong Youth Conference 2016’ continues with the theme ‘JUSTICE: Because I am a Girl’. With 16 teams of students from 7 local secondary schools joining the conference, each team will represent one developing country. Students from each team will present on different girls’ issues in each country, and make suggestions for improvement.

Training Workshops

To help students prepare for their presentation for the Youth Conference, two training workshops were held on 6 and 9 August respectively at City University of Hong Kong. Professionals were invited to speak at the workshops to enhance students’ knowledge and presentation skills.

Participants were welcome by Ms. Kanie Siu, Chief Executive Officer of Plan International Hong Kong

Dr. Yuk Wah Chan from the Department of Asian and International Studies, City University of Hong Kong, discussed gender issues in developing countries with students.

Mr. Chan Yau Chong, Director of EL Education, shared with students the concept of global citizenship.

Ms. Kanie Siu, Chief Executive Officer of Plan International Hong Kong, presented a souvenir to Mr. Sean Lin, Founding Speaker of Hong Kong Speakers Bureau.

Students listened to Ms. Yee Man Yvette To, PhD Candidate of Department of Asian and International Studies, shared on research skills attentively.

Youth Conference

‘Plan International Youth Conference 2016 – Justice: Because I am a Girl”, jointly organised by Plan International Hong Kong and Department of Asian and International Studies of City University of Hong Kong, was successfully held on Saturday, 10 September at the City University.
