Senior Officer, Research and Advocacy

PRINCIPAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Formulate and implement campaign/ advocacy strategies to promote child safeguarding policy and child participation in Hong Kong
  • Establish good relations with different external parties including government officials, politicians, professional bodies or pressure groups
  • Identify research topic, design and manage research projects in areas of child-rights and child safeguarding
  • Develop monitoring and evaluation framework for programme evaluation and work closely with programme staff on advocacy
  • Assist the CEO in preparing speeches, talks and communications materials regarding the advocacy work targeting different stakeholders
  • Research and write child safeguarding updates for the website, CS Net, newsletter and other media channels
  • Proactively respond to child-issues, write articles to communicate local child-right/child protection issues
  • Content development for communication materials related to advocacy and research, including press release, policy proposals, articles, and social media posts etc.
  • Assist to plan and develop internal advocacy training programmes for internal colleagues and external community parties
  • Act as a gatekeeper to ensure all influencing materials are in line with the global policies and guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

Job Specific Competencies

  • University degree in social policy, journalism, public administration, or social science-related discipline
  • At least 3 years of experience in similar role or demonstrated knowledge of relevant areas, including gender equality, child rights and child protection
  • Proven experience in advocacy work and/or engagement with government officials/ policymakers and key stakeholders in child-related organisations are highly preferred
  • Ability to address a range of child-rights issues in the context of humanitarian action, political developments, public attitudes and local conditions;
  • Ability to conduct quality research design, conceptualize, design and implement major research and influencing initiatives.
  • Excellent writing skills, with experience of writing for different external audiences
  • Ability to deliver oral presentations to various audiences
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Cantonese.
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals;
  • Commitment to Plan’s mission and vision and observe strict data privacy and child protection policies

  • Demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping internal stakeholders informed
  • Mature and highly organised.
  • Able to maintain active engagement and communications with influencing stakeholders

Other proficiency

  • Proficient in MS Office applications
  • English requirement – Preferable with Grade B or above in HKCEE (Syl. B) / 7.5 or above in IELTS
